Description:
Workshop: Fire Restoration in Washoe County

Washoe County has received $3.8 million in federal economic stimulus funds to pay for fire restoration in the hills surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Work is expected to begin this summer and could continue into next year, creating a minimum of 121 jobs.

The county will choose larger companies as prime contractors and sub-contractors primarily in landscape related industries including; mapping, seeding, planting trees and shrubs, soil erosion control, weed clearance, irrigation, thinning of trees and brush, disease and insect control, as well as products related to these activities such as seed and plant material.

Attend Our August 27th Workshop and Learn More!

Lynda Nelson, Washoe County Parks and Open Space Planning Manager, will be the keynote speaker at a free contracting workshop on August 27th from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Associated General Contractors offices at 5400 Mill Street.

Is Government Contracting Right for You?

Government contracting is not necessarily the right decision for every business. Here are some basic questions. Are you:

  • Willing to take time to prepare and present offers including bids and quotes?
  • Willing to be a subcontractor to companies that are prime contractors?
  • Positive that your business can financially support and execute a government contract that may involve start-up costs?
  • Prepared to learn and follow rules relating to government contracting?
  • Has your business been in operation at least one to two years?
  • Has your company successfully fulfilled a non-government contract or successfully performed as a non-government sub-contractor?

How do I Register?

RSVPs for the workshop are requested so sign up online or call 784-1717. The workshop is hosted by Nevada Microenterprise Initiative (NMI) and the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC), with the Small Business Administration (SBA) participating.
